Chenzhou High-tech Industrial Development Zone (hereinafter referred to as "Chenzhou High-tech Zone") originated from Hunan Chenzhou Shizhuyuan Nonferrous Metal Science and Technology Industrial Park approved by the provincial government in April 2003. In March 2012, it was renamed Chenzhou High-tech Industrial Park; in February 2015, it was upgraded to National High-tech Industrial Development Zone with the approval of the State Council.
The zone has been recognized as Hunan Rare and Precious Metal Deep Processing Industrial Base, Hunan Digital Video Industry Chenzhou Base, Hunan Information Industry Chenzhou Base, Hunan New Material Industry Chenzhou Base, Hunan undertaking industrial transfer demonstration park, Hunan "top ten" industrial parks with the most investment value. In March 2015, with the approval of the State Council, Chenzhou High-tech Zone was officially upgraded to the National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, becoming the first national high-tech zone in Chenzhou, named Chenzhou High-tech Industrial Development Zone.
Chenzhou High-tech Zone is the East District of Chenzhou City's urban development plan (2009-2030), accounting for 43 square kilometers of Chenzhou's 105 square kilometers of urban master plan. Up to now, there are more than 1270 enterprises (including commercial enterprises) registered in the park, with a permanent resident population of nearly 100,000, including more than 70,000 industrial workers.
Through years of development, Chenzhou High-tech Zone has formed leading industries such as new nonferrous metal materials, electronic information, equipment manufacturing, etc., and has been successively recognized as National High-tech Service Industry Base, National Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Experimental Zone, Hunan Rare and Precious Metal Industry Base, Hunan New Material Industry Base, Hunan Undertaking Industrial Transfer Demonstration Park, Hunan Green Park, which is the industrial depression, enterprise depression, financial depression and innovation highland in Chenzhou. On September 21, 2020, the State Council held a press conference to release the "Overall Plan of China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone". Chenzhou is one of the three areas of Hunan Free Trade Zone, and Chenzhou High-tech Zone is the main bearing place of Chenzhou Area.
In 2019, Chenzhou High-tech Zone will complete the total output value of scale industry of 38.8 billion yuan, the added value of scale industry of 12.87 billion yuan, an increase of 7.5 percent; the investment in fixed assets of 9.443 billion yuan, an increase of 12.5 percent. The total amount of inward investment was 6 billion yuan (including Chenzhou Comprehensive Insurance Zone), an increase of 13.1 percent; six new foreign investment projects were added, and the actual utilization of foreign investment was 240 million US dollars (direct foreign investment was 6.33 million US dollars), an increase of 11 percent. Foreign trade import and export reached 1.789 billion US dollars, an increase of 10 percent.
